ABOUT WANDSWORTH

WANDSWORTH SW18, AND EARLSFIELD FROM THE 1500S TO PRESENT

The River Wandle gave its name to the borough of Wandsworth in London SW18. Long ago the village of Wandsworth became known as a seat of several manufacturing industries and crafts introduced by the French Huguenots in the 1680s.

Although the River Thames has always fostered industries and mills on its banks, pre 1850 Wandsworth would have been farmland, market gardens, parkland of the large estates opening to the heathlands of Wimbledon and Wandsworth Commons.

The arrival of Earlsfield railway station in 1884 began the transformation of Wandsworth into the modern and sought-after district of London we know today, 10 minutes by train to Waterloo Station.

Beer was brewed on the site of the former Young's Brewery since 1533, now redeveloped as sleek residential and retail quarter The Ram Quarter. Some of Wandsworth's famous residents include: Thomas Hardy, H.G.Wells, Voltaire and David Lloyd George.

A wealth of often large Victorian and Edwardian housing stock makes Wandsworth and Earlsfield sought after by families, and property owners with a liking for renovation and restoration. That also means they are often looking for appropriate furniture and other home decorative items you may have in your property but now wish to sell.

Cleared the house for me on the day I requested and I felt so confident of his services that I left him to carry out the work.

Carried out expertly, with good advice at each turn and so taking the weight off our minds. Highly recommended.
